Rich People Problems

7 August 2017

I really love this series.  In book three of Kevin Kwan’s “Crazy Rich Asians,” Ah Ma is dying.  Everyone descends upon Tyersall Hall to say goodbye and stake their rights in the Will.  Nick and Astrid find themselves banished from their ancestral home.  It takes a couple of servants to sneak them in to see Ah Ma one last time before she dies.  What erupts afterward is the same old drama.  They fight over what will happen next with their legacy.  Astrid is plunged into a sex tape scandal and could lose custody of her son.  Nick is trying to amend past wrongs with Ah Ma and keep her legacy alive.  Eddie is his usual, “It’s all about me.  Pay attention to me.”  Kitty is trying to destroy her step-daughter, Colette, the same woman behind Rachel’s poisoning in book two.  Colette has also found an upgrade and a way back into society, but she’s looking at it from a global scale after her humiliation in China.  All in all, it’s your basic everyday billionaire drama.  You know, the kind of tabloid gossip you can’t look away from.  It’s Gossip Girl Asian style.

The Joy Project: How to Find Joy In Your Life

3 August 20173 August 2017

Are you unhappy with how things are going in your life?  Do you have dreams you want to accomplish, but can’t seem to figure out where to start?  Is everything not turning out the way you want it to?

What if I told you that there is a way you can turn that life you do not want completely off?  You can go to the next chapter of your life or start an entirely new book.  What if there is a way you can make your dreams come true by changing how you are doing things right now?

The Secret

In my quest into learning how to live and have a better life, I watched “The Secret” on Netflix.  I read the book ten years ago and decided to refresh my memory on the importance of thinking positive all of the time.  After watching the film, I felt refreshed and happier.  I realized what I could do to change my narrative and become the person I dreamed of being.

I decided to take what I learned from this refresher course and do life differently.  I created a new mission and called it The Joy Project.

This project is designed to reshape how we view everything in life.  Rather than seeing a pile of dishes in the sink, I ask myself now, “What will bring me joy?”  As I wash each dish, I think of how a clean spotless kitchen will bring me joy, which in turn creates a better atmosphere while I do a mundane task.

As I continue to think of joy and create affirmations on the importance of living a joyful life, I find that I don’t remember washing that last dish.  I just feel happy and filled with joy before I even realize the kitchen is now spotless.  I went through and cleaned every single surface without even thinking about it, because I was so focused on what would bring me joy: a spotless kitchen.

Procrastinate No More

Each time I walk into the kitchen now, I feel joy at seeing clean, clutter-free counters, a shiny microwave, and everything in its place.  My kitchen is now impeccably spotless (for the first time ever).  If something strikes me as not being joyful (like a dirty floor), it bothers me.  It will continue to bother me until it is spotless.

Trust me, I am a procrastinator just like most people.  It is a little trait I have been trying to fix since I was in college.  I will walk by that same spot for weeks thinking I really should get to that before I actually do.  With The Joy Project, I started to look at procrastination differently.  I started to see how I was hurting myself and that was not something I wanted to do anymore.  I cannot have what I want (a spotless home) if I keep putting things off.

Procrastination, in a large way, brings us sorrow.  Putting things off as if we will have forever to do them is a fallacy that we must fix in our minds.  We are only promised the present, not the future.  If we want joy, we must focus on bringing joy into our lives now, not tomorrow.

One book that really helped me redefine how I do things is The 5 Second Rule.  If you find yourself putting things off all of the time, you must read Mel Robbins’s book.  She teaches you how to turn your life around.  Instead of putting things off, countdown from 5 to 1 and then get moving.

This book really helps in the morning.  For me, as a writer, I try to wake up early so I can write.  In the past, when that alarm went off, I immediately turned it off and went back to sleep, waiting for the real alarm at 7 a.m.  Now, I lament for one second that it is time to get up before I start the countdown: 5-4-3-2-1 and go.

When you stop procrastinating, you stop creating sorrow for yourself.  There is a sense of joy when you get things done and not wait until later to do them.

Testing Out the Theory

When I first started this project, I wrote out a list of affirmations.  I focused on the things I wanted out of life, thinking over how to say those affirmations in the most positive way.  Like most people, my first affirmation was about wealth and increasing it.  The only way I could do that was to create positive vibes all around me as I repeated the mantras.

On the first day, I focused on creating joy in my life, because the way the law of the universe works is that the things you want most out of life comes to you quicker when you are happy, joyful, and positive.  I went through that pile of dishes thinking of the word ‘joy’ and what it meant to me.  What is joy?  I repeated to myself: “I welcome joy into my life.”

I wanted to create joy and surround myself in it, repeating the word ‘joy’ over and over again.  Before I knew it, the kitchen was spotless.

I didn’t even stress over how much of a disarray it was in before I started.  I actually felt like I upped my cleaning game without even noticing.  Everything was exactly the way I hoped it would be.  I could feel happiness brimming over with so much joy every single time I looked at my spectacularly clean counters.  I never thought they would ever look so clean and uncluttered.

The funny thing about this is that I focused on joy, not cleanliness.  I took the concept of joy and told myself I will be happy if my home is spectacularly clean and beautiful like we see in magazines and Instagram photos.  By focusing on joy, I lost sight of the labor and what I was doing.  When I stopped, I realized what I did, how focusing on joy actually helped me bring actual joy into my life.

It Takes a Lot of Work, Baby!

Creating joy in your life takes a lot of work.  A LOT OF WORK.  The reason why it is so difficult is because our minds are trained to think and absorb the negative easily.  Every day, our thoughts tend to lean towards anger, dissatisfaction, and annoyance.  We pass judgment and are demeaning to ourselves many times before we even walk out the front door.

Joy does not come easily.  You have to work for that joy you ultimately want. By constantly keeping your thoughts in check, you will be able to change the negative narrative into a positive one.  You have to reteach yourself how to think better thoughts.

It is easier to think negatively, but with lots of practice, you will be able to switch that thought process.  Thinking positively all of the time will become easier than thinking negative.  That is and always should be your goal in life…to think, be and feel positive all of the time.

With “The Secret,” you create positive affirmations to ask for what you want.  So while you are asking the universe for X, you will get an answer on how to accomplish X.  It always requires you to take advantage of the answers that come your way, but it still requires you to do the work to get what you’re asking for.

For instance, after two weeks of doing the affirmations and constantly thinking about joy, the answer came to me on how I would generate more wealth.  The blog!

I instantly netted three new sponsors, one of them a major sponsor.  I surpassed my monthly hustle financial goal, doubling it.  Google sent me a letter asking me where to send the check to (i.e. the site made money).  The answer to creating the wealth I wanted was presented to me and I ran with it.  I know that in order to really get what I want in the end, I have to work extremely hard for it.  The universe presented me with the solution on how I was going to accomplish my dream.  I put a lot of work into it and the universe rewarded me accordingly.

Creating Joy Begins Inside

I firmly believe that the first place you need to create joy is inside of your home.  Begin by repeating the word joy in your mind.  I repeat to myself, “I am creating joy.”  I branch off to say where I am creating joy, how I am sharing it within my home and with the world (because the universe looks favorably on sharing good things with the world).

I express gratitude around me for the things I am fortunate to have, the wealth I already have, and the dreams I already accomplished.  Being thankful increases my wealth of joy.

Every morning, I practice meditation and mindfulness by repeating my positive affirmations of what I want in life.  I say them out loud in the shower and repeat them over and over in my head as I commute to work.  While I do each task, I remind myself that I do this with joy.

When I sit down at my desk, I write down in a notebook: “What will bring me joy today?”  I create my joy to do list (which essentially is my to do list), and how completing those tasks will bring me joy.  For instance, finishing X project means I will not worry later, wondering if I did it or not.  It means finishing this now will be one less thing I have to do later.

In everything you do, tell yourself how doing each task will bring you joy.  You will find the task much easier to do, and the feeling of happiness that you will feel after you complete it will help you increase your joy.  In the long run, it will help push you further to making your affirmations become reality.

How Does This Equate to Accomplishing Your Dream?

Think about it.  Living your dream means you will be happy, right?  It will bring you immense joy, correct?

If you are putting in the work to help make your dreams come true, you need to focus on the joy and happiness that will come by making that emotion happen now and throughout the process.  That is part of the journey.  Start with the world around you by inserting joy into your thoughts and how you approach every single thing you do.

Most of all, you will begin to see your world change.  The way you view life will be anew.  You will begin to see those positive affirmations coming true sooner, rather than later.  As a result, those wealth affirmations you keep repeating may start seeing some actual zeros in your bank account.

The universe rewards those putting out positive energy and doing good things for the world.  Creating joy in your own life spills over into the world around you.  It helps other people find their own moment of happiness.  It is like you are bestowing a gift of joy onto other people, and that actually makes the world into a better place.

Action Item: Start Small

Through God all things are possible.  You’ve heard that, right?  If you really want to create the most powerful affirmations, you create them with God.  If you don’t believe in God, stick to “The Secret” version of things.  If you believe in God (not talking about Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, etc.), then you must start your affirmations with Him.

In Brahma Kumari’s murlis (i.e. God’s words), we know that if you remember God in everything that you do (because He is the embodiment of love, peace and joy), then you will be entitled to your own fortune.  He will take great care of you by rewarding you for your service to him and to the world.

This knowledge can be applied to every religion.  If you approach everything you do by remembering God, then you will create joy at a much higher level.

For instance, the way I approach how things are done in my home is by thinking of God while I clean.  Is this home worthy of God?  If I were to invite God to live with me in my home, would I be proud of the way things look?  Is my home worthy of God?

It’s not just about making things clean.  It’s about creating an atmosphere, or a sort of energy, that embodies the same virtues God has.

In creating joy, start with these action items.

  1.  Meditate when you first wake up in the morning.  This is not prayer.  Meditation is the act of silencing your mind and going within.  If this is your first time, close your eyes.  Think of the word joy and what it means to you.  Sit there and contemplate that word for one minute, gradually working your way up to ten minute meditations.  This is about learning how to make your mind powerful.
  2. Start creating joy in everything you do by starting in your home.  A happy home is a healthy home.  With everything you do, practice mindfulness.  Concentrate on what you are doing and incorporating the thoughts of joy and what it means to you.
  3. As you shower, say your affirmations out loud.  For instance, “I attract a positive flow of wealth to me every single day.”  Whatever it is that you are dreaming of.  Start saying your affirmations over and over again in the most positive way that you can.  Make sure there are no negative words in your affirmations or it will conflict with what you are trying to accomplish.
  4. On your commute, repeat the affirmations over and over again in your mind.
  5. When you sit down to work, write in a notebook: “What will bring me joy today?”  Write down your to do list and think of how tackling each item will bring you joy.  How can you reward yourself for a job well done?
  6. As you go throughout the day, try eliminating negative thoughts from your mind and replacing them with positive thoughts.  Your mind must be constantly positive.  If you notice you are starting to think negatively, take a step back, acknowledge this is happening and immediately focus on something positive.  This is about training yourself to stop thinking negatively and to start focusing on being positive.
  7. Don’t forget to share your gratitude with the universe.  Say it in your mind.  Write it down.  However you like to do it, share with the universe everything you are already grateful for.
  8. But most of all, smile.  Be happy.  Let that joy be your mission.  What’s the point of having a dream if it does not bring you joy?  Focus on the joy first, then go after your dream.  Having your mind in the right place from the beginning will help you make the correct decisions in the long term to making your dream come true in such a way that it will be way better than you could ever imagine it to be.  That’s the dream you want to live.

This adorable Zac Zac Posen bag is very elegant and ladylike.  It fits a large 8 1/2 x 11 planner, a large book, wallet and sunglasses.  You can drape it over your arm, or use the arm strap.  I prefer carrying it the way I imagine Jackie O would carry this bag, draped elegantly over the arm while wearing a ladylike A-line dress and big sunglasses.  [Similar]

See What I Have Done

2 August 2017

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

Or did she?

This is the story of Lizzie Borden and what happened that fateful day when her father and step-mother were brutally murdered.  Did she do it or did someone else?  All throughout the book, you are second guessing what you know.  Did Lizzie do it?  Or was it her Uncle?  Was it the maid?  Was it a drifter?  It is difficult to assess whether Lizzie really did it, although she is a weird one and you are left saying to yourself, there is no doubt this whack job (must be where the term comes from) did it.

For the author to dive into the mind of Lizzie Borden is a scary feat.  I am actually surprised she made it out alive.

Who Moved My Cheese?

2 August 2017

Touted as one of the most important books all businesses need their workers to read, “Who Moved My Cheese?” is about change.  In business and in life, we need to learn to adapt to change or be left out.  Businesses need to evolve in order to survive. Along with that, employees need to grow and change.  If you don’t change as technology advances, you could be without a job.  This book tells the parable of four mice running a maze.  When they discover a huge block of cheese, they stay until the cheese runs out.  It’s what happens when the cheese runs out that is a very important lesson.

Building a Story Brand

1 August 2017

This book is set to be released October 10, 2017.  If you are a blogger, an entrepreneur, boss…this is the book you need to read.  This book teaches you the importance of building your business by focusing on the only thing that matters: the customer.  Everyone is a hero in their own story, but in order to make it in this business, we need to focus on being the customer’s guide.  We need to show them that what we offer will benefit their lives.  This book is the only Marketing 101 book you will ever need.  You will learn a lot.  Buy a physical copy of the book and get your highlighter ready.  There is so much important information in this book that you will thank Donald Miller for sharing his insight.

The List

1 August 20171 August 2017

This is the new 1994 of our age.  This YA book is 1984 for our kids.  Mixed with the realities of our age, this book explores a grim future for human beings after our world changes due to climate change.  Letta is the new Wordsmith in one of the only civilizations left.  She is responsible for creating The List, a set of words that each person is allowed to speak.  They are not allowed to speak any words outside of The List.  They believe that words were part of the world’s demise.  Animals survived, but humans barely survived.  Letta lives in a world where one man rules and will go through great lengths to keep the world safe, even if that means silencing and killing all of humanity.  Letta and her new friends seek to save humanity, with that comes letting go of the establishment and safety to do what is right.  One of the best books I’ve read in a long time.  A book you will never forget (like 1984).

THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE!

The Sale:  Save BIG on Brand-New Fall Arrivals at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  FREE Shipping. FREE returns.
When: Now through August 6, 2017.

It seems like back to fall (i.e. school) shopping for adults is starting earlier and earlier each year.  Since the kids are buying their supplies in July now (the time I buy my office supplies), we have to start thinking of our own fall wardrobe, because September is coming!!!

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is from now until August 6th.  Here are 50 of my favorites (plus don’t forget the Spanx).

Since I am redecorating my home, I wanted to come up with a theme that would make me happy.  So I decided to make my space joyful, serene and calm.  The bedroom is the spot where I add a little glamour with crystal chandeliers and a bed you don’t want to get out of.

I basically sleep in my closet.  That is how I describe my bedroom because my closet can’t hold my wardrobe, so the prized items come out of the closet and become part of the decor.  Color is the key to creating a gorgeous place to sleep at night.  Use soft colors, neutrals, lilacs or blues to create a calm space, then add ONE bright color like pink (see the Oliver Gal print) to make you smile in the morning.

My ombré wall in three shades of blue plus my oversized Chanel Oliver Gal painting in pink makes me smile every single morning, because it is so calm and beautiful to look at each day.  You should always decorate in a way that will make you smile before you start your day.

Keep in mind that less is better.  Don’t overdo it.  Keep it simple.  Instead of an art wall, consider buying one oversized piece of artwork.  It’s less clutter.

Lust

20 July 2017

Most fashion girls dream of owning the IT bag for all fashionistas.  That bag happens to be an Hermes Birkin.  The Hermes Birkin is the only handbag that goes up in value.  Just recently a similar bag went for $379,261 at Christie’s.  The difference between this bag and the Christie’s bag?  The other one had diamonds!  This bag is a heck of a lot cheaper, but it will still cost you $95,000.  You can buy an entire house at that price.  There are filthy rich women in China that have an entire room dedicated to their collection.  For any fashionista that collects handbags, this is the ultimate lust to add to your collection. Beauty Journal Spa Days

20 July 2017

Sundays are my spa days.  This is the day I try out all of the different products I receive, including the stuff my friends recommend.

This past weekend, I extended the spa day to Saturday, because I wanted to try out the Sulwhasoo K-Beauty treatment.  The following day, I used all of the products you see in the picture above.

Here are the products I’ll be discussing today.

K-Beauty

K-Beauty is short for Korean Beauty.  This is a phenomenon that is starting to kick up steam in the United States.  Korean women are known for the soft youthful skin.  What we did not know is that these women have an intensive skin regimen.

For some lines, they use ten different beauty products every day.  Sulwhasoo created an introductory box that has only five products you can apply.  They also include full sized bottles of the Essential Balancing Water EX and Essential Balancing Emulsion EX.  According to Neiman Marcus, they are the “two key products to hydrate and balance the skin at the beginning of your skincare routine.”

After washing my face in the morning, I applied all five of the products to my face.  I recommend only doing this during the day, and not using this as an evening routine.  I tried the latter and ended up feeling very itchy.  I did not have the same reaction during the daytime.

By the afternoon I noticed something that I have not seen happen with any other product I tried thus far.  My pores were miraculously smaller.  My face also felt so much softer.

Of all the products I tried, Sulwhasoo gave me the best results.

Sulwhasoo is an expensive regimen.  I recommend purchasing the Essential Duo Set first to try the products out.  You will receive five sample sizes to try out, and the full sized bottles of the toner and emulsion.  So if you feel like continuing the K-Beauty care, you only have to buy three other products.

The Duo Set is $121.  After the results I received, I feel that the money was well spent.

Sunday Spa Day

At first, I wanted to report that you should never use one of the products I tried out.  But then I spoke to my friend about it and she explained I made a mistake.  So I’m going to have to give this product another try.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Spa days start with a long shower, trying out new products.  I received a sample of L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay Shampoo and Conditioner.  While my hair felt fabulous in the shower, it did not give me the same results as Clear Complete Scalp does.

I am a loyal user of Clear shampoo products.  I am always happy with the results.

I washed my face with Dior Gentle Foaming Cleanser, before using the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion treatment.  I followed that up with the Fresh Honey Mask and then the Karuna K-Beauty mask.

I applied the One Love Organics to my arms and legs.  It’s a nice oil spray you can mist onto your body post-shower.

After the masks, I exfoliated my lips using the Fresh lip polish with the Bliss Spa Pout-o-Matic.  This device is similar to the Clarisonic Facial Cleansing System, but for your lips.  I usually switch between Fresh and the Bliss lip exfoliants.

So the part where I went wrong was applying the Breathe Deeply on my face.  There is alcohol in it and it burned my skin immediately.  I raced to take it off of my face as it turned red, before I could feel the cooling mint on my skin.

This is why it was a bad idea: the microdermabrasion.   My skin was raw from the treatment.  That is why I had the reaction.  I am going to try the Breathe Deeply again at some juncture, just not after an exfoliation.

My Favorites

Of all the products I tried this weekend, the Sulwhasoo tops the list.  I also love the Fresh Honey Mask.  I find myself using this mask again and again over the other treatments.

As for the Karuna mask, I am not sold on this beauty treatment.  This is not my first time using it.  I believe the Sulwhasoo beauty treatment is far superior to what the Karuna mask is trying to do.

My only comment on Dr. Brandt’s microdermabrasion is that I was pleasantly surprised I did not have an allergic reaction to it.  That was my main fear since I have super sensitive skin.  It feels like sand paper, but it does do what it says it will do.

I plan on using Sulwhasoo more often because out of everything I tried, it is the only skincare regimen that had immediate and positive results.  If you’re going to spend the money, it is better to spend it on something that works for you and not waste it on the products that have little to no results.

Miles Morales

19 July 201720 July 2017

This book is due to be released on August 1, 2017.  This is by far one of the best stories I’ve read this year.  I gave it 5 stars because this is more than just a Spider-Man story.  This is about a kid facing adversity, just like every other kid out there.  He may have super powers, but it does not mean that he is not a victim of society.  He is learning how to be a hero, not just a superhero fighting super villains.  Jason Reynolds is an excellent writer.  The story is absolutely incredible.  I had a hard time putting the book down.  I couldn’t wait to get back to reading it again.  This is a must read for everyone.  Get this book for your kids.  Read it yourself.  I don’t like Spider-Man, but I do love Miles Morales.  Excellent read. Rating: [usr 5.0]

There are very few books I cross paths with that make me very excited to share with everyone.  For Jason Reynolds’ upcoming release “Miles Morales,” I can’t wait for all of you to read this book.

Yes, this is a Spider-Man novel.  Forget Peter Parker, this story is about Miles Morales, a mixed race kid from Brooklyn going to a posh boarding school in Brooklyn on scholarship.  He is a genius with a 4.0 GPA, so smart, the neighborhood speaks of him with pride.  What makes this story unique though, is that this is about rising from adversity and becoming a better person.

Miles is from a poor family.  His dad’s past is that of a common criminal, along with his uncle.  They start off doing a lot of bad things as teens, because they feel like they have no choice.  If they are going to survive, they need to steal and make fast money.

Then one day, Miles’s dad meets a beautiful woman, falls in love and leaves that world of crime for something better.  He wants to have a family that does not need to resort to crime to survive.  They are trying to give Miles a better option in life.

Leaving crime, though, means disowning a brother.  But that doesn’t stop Miles.  He sneaks out to see his uncle, because that’s what you do for family.  During one of those visits, he is bit by a spider, just like Peter Parker.

Going to school has its own challenges.  He works hard at his grades, trying to maintain his 4.0 GPA. He has a work study to help cover the room and board at the school.  He tries so hard to do everything right, but society tries to push him back down.

His history teacher, Mr. Chamberlain, has his own opinions on blacks and slavery.  They are very backwards ideologies.  He makes each teaching lesson a lesson on the importance of black people remaining slaves.  He believes they need to stay within their element and not try to rise above (i.e. go to an elite boarding school).

These lessons disturb the students, but they just put it off as crazy Mr. Chamberlain.  Ironically though, Miles’s spidey sense goes off every single time he is in this class.  Thinking someone outside needs to be saved, he runs out of the classroom (saying he needs to go to the bathroom, which Chamberlain denies) only to find nothing at all.  He ends up getting suspended from school for a week.

He leaves his work study to show up at an open mic night to get extra credit for one of his classes (and pass a poem to a girl he’s crushing on), only to discover the next morning that cans of sausages were stolen during his shift.  Something like this could lead to his expulsion, because they assume he took it because he’s 1) black and 2) poor.  He doesn’t even like canned sausages.

The Message

His father is trying to teach him how to grow up to be a hero to his community first.  When he comes up against all of these problems both at school and in his neighborhood, the question becomes what type of person will he be.  Will he turn bad or good in the end?

This book is mainly about the challenges many people face across America.  It is about learning how to be a hero, no matter who you are or where you are from.  You do not necessarily have to be a superhero with powers in order to be a hero.  Sometimes just helping out your community, picking up trash, and helping your neighbors is part of being a hero.  You are helping someone else that needs help.  That is what heroes do.

But what is a Spider-Man story without evil villains out to destroy the world?  Oh, there are a few bad guys in this book that leads to an epic fight scene in the end.  So do not go into this thinking this is just about evil super villains, because this book is more than that.  This book is truly about a boy learning how to be a hero with and without his powers.

The message in the end is that “We can all be heroes.”

The Rating

I give this book 5 stars, because it is so well written and a tremendously awesome story.  I was so absorbed in the story, I couldn’t stop reading it (and this was while I was doing a Game of Thrones binge).

The story is more than just the regular superhero story.  It is a story about a kid trying to be a hero when the world keeps trying to stop him.  It’s hard for a lot of kids to go up against a system that wants to see them fail.  Miles Morales is one of those kids.

Just because he’s Spider-Man, it doesn’t mean that he’s not faced with personal challenges that are similar to so many kids out there.  He is victimized because of his race and his socio-economic class.  There are people that want kids like Miles to fail because they are black or from a bad neighborhood or from a parent that is a known criminal.

His family may struggle, but his father, that known criminal, is trying hard to make sure his son doesn’t turn out like he did.  He changes his life around so that Miles can have a better opportunity.  Miles deserves a chance to be the change.

What I Love

What I love about this story is that Reynolds is teaching kids that they can all be heroes.  It starts in your own neighborhood.  Little things like helping the elderly, cleaning up the streets, or helping your neighbors can result in a positive change in our communities.

Reynolds doesn’t shun the stories of people living in their cars or kids being falsely arrested for crimes they did not commit.  This is the reality in our world.  Having a family member in jail, visiting them in a detention facility and trying to be a family are all part of the story many kids experience.

The author brings the realities around us into this story.  Even superheroes can experience the same adversity as the kid that picks up this book.  What Reynolds is saying to these kids…YOU’RE NOT ALONE.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, I cannot begin to express how much I absolutely love this book.  I do not even like Spider-Man.  I am a Superman kind of girl.  This story though made me into a Miles Morales fan.

This is an excellent story that should be on everyone’s must read list this year.

The Trials of Apollo, Book Two: Dark Prophecy

19 July 2017

Oh, Apollo.  Lester (aka the pimply teenage version of Apollo) finds himself in Indianapolis with Leo and Calypso.  Their search for the second emperor Commodus (the Commodus of Gladiator fame) has them teaming up with two old acquaintances of Apollo.  They need to free two griffins, find (and heal) a missing girl, and receive a prophecy from Apollo’s foreboding son.  All the while, they have to stop an attack on the demigods’ safe haven.  Of all of Rick Riordan’s characters, Apollo/Lester is the wimpiest one of them all, but he still manages to save the day.
